Shavuot (the "Feast of Weeks" (since we counted seven weeks since Passover), also celebrating the giving of the law) starts tonight. It's a short holiday, just two days (outside Israel). There are two main traditions: staying up all night learning Torah (something I'm no longer able to do, or now acknowledge I can't do, or something), and eating dairy products, especially cheesecake. Happily, Trader Joe's carries some very nice cheesecake, since I can't seem to bring myself to make it.

At this point, I'm just cooking/preparing whatever comes to mind, and I'll sort it into meals as the time comes. So, multi-grain challah rolls; artichokes; sauteed eggplant, onion, red pepper, and maybe some spicy red pepper-and-eggplant sauce; scallion quiches (again made with farmer cheese); fresh pineapple and blueberries; tiny Brussels sprouts; and green salad with feta or blue cheese.

It being a holiday (and not Shabbat), I can cook (on an already-lit flame) if I need to (also carry; it doesn't matter that the eruv's down), so if something comes to mind later, I can make it. I prefer to have as much done in advance as possible, though.

Chag sameach to those who celebrate it, and enjoy midweek to the rest of you.
