Last night I ushered for ASP's first non-period play, a new play by John Kuntz called The Hotel Nepenthe. It's funny, and sad, and... I'm not sure how to describe it, really. It's a series of vignettes, mostly in two non-consecutive parts, that all involve the hotel in some way, but there wasn't really any connection between the vignettes. There were four actors, shifting roles from rental car agent, to society lady, to bus driver, to senator's wife, to fairy godmother, and more. Some of the stories were sad, many of them funny, sometimes as well. There were lots of of costume changes, of course, but also lots of careful sound design too, a lot of it classic TV, especially themes.

It was about life making sense, or not, lacking greater meaning. I think. Maybe not. It would be cool to be able to talk it over with someone, actually. Lots of laughs, also fairly adult content. And a totally warped image of the song Afternoon Delight.
