  • The tomato cage is back in the basement.
  • The second load of laundry is in the dryer, which is especially good because I don't think the underwear fairy was likely to visit tonight.
  • The plants I'm overwintering (hopefully) are inside, one of the lavenders still flowering, the ginger towering over everything else (and just sent up a new shoot, too) (for completeness: two different lavenders, ginger, two thymes, and a rosemary).
  • Some plans are finalized, others further on the way to being final.
  • The sukkah is down, well before the first snow, even. I think this is the earliest I've managed it, ever, and without getting a splinter, either.

Know anything about rose bushes? There is one in a pot outside that might be fun to have in our apartment. Is it better for them to go dormant over the winter?

I don't know about rose bushes, but I think I might have a rose book around here somewhere. I'll see if I can find it...

Gah. It's an English book, from Kew Gardens, and doesn't seem to think anyone would keep roses in a pot.
Side note: there are a ton of cool names for different kinds of roses, including "Aloha", "Honeymoon", and "Deb's Delight". *grin*

OK, after Googling, it seems that roses need to have a cool period in the winter (according to this gardening site, for instance), so I've seen a couple of suggestions for putting them in a garage if they can't be left outside, and then of course that depends on the variety, etc etc etc, and soon enough I ended up in a rose thicket.

Hope this helps.

It does help. I'll move it soon to the ell. It'll probably be happy out there. Some light. No snow. Cool air. Thanks! :)
