Chametz quest (Paper and Provisions)
Apr. 25th, 2003 04:24 pmI haven't yet eaten chametz. The plan: get a new 50-lb bag of flour from Paper and Provisions, make challah and (chicken and) dumplings for Shabbat.
Alas, Paper and Provisions could not help me: they had run out of flour. This was sad enough (I resorted to a 5-lb bag from Market Basket next door), but even worse was the other news: they're closing the Somerville (Union Square) location, as of May 10. Ack! Yes, they're going to keep their Watertown location (128 Waltham St.; I haven't mapquested to find out just how inconvenient that's going to be, though I hope it's at least near Russo's, so I can get nice, cheap produce at the same time).
I hope they'll have a bag of flour for me next week.

Date: 2003-04-25 04:42 pm (UTC)I'm almost through the 50# of bread flour I got last fall. Of course, I make a lot less bread than you do.

Date: 2003-04-26 06:02 pm (UTC)I use about 200 lb of flour/year. I think the majority of that is bread, since I don't bake much. Mentally, anyway, it's less nuisance to make decent bread than to go find it in the stores (and considerably cheaper, compared to the snazzy loaves I'm most interested in buying once I find nice bread).
