Brain meanderings
Mar. 4th, 2003 12:33 pmDo people who choose LJ names that are new to them feel that over time they change to fit this new persona? Is choosing a(n LJ) name for oneself easier for other people than it was for me (for them's that were choosing something new, of course)?
Getting drops of grapefruit juice off one's glasses once they've dried is really annoying.
I ate my first Twinkie ever this weekend. I don't understand why they have such popularity. It's also weird that the cream filling is inserted through three locations on the bottom.
It was fricking cold out last night. The strange part was that, while some of me did start to feel frozen by the end of my walk, my arms never did, despite wearing just a t-shirt under my coat (and other clothes over my legs, thanks very much).
My major annoyance with the cold snap is that it's doing something wonky to the driver's-side door on my car, making the lock, key, and catching mechanism not necessarily work. I hope it's only weather related.
I finished another crocheted bag. I need more yarn before I start another one (and someone who wants a crocheted bag; I have plenty for what I need). Or an idea of some other crocheting project; that would be good, too.
ill-fitting cloak has: nape gape
high-class scalawag: tony phony
[1715 addendum: I had some of the lentil-parsnip soup I was gifted with last night. It was really good, except that I could taste some cilantro in it. The taste is a nasty one to me (cilantro-defenders: it tastes different to you than it does to me, I promise.), but not overwhelming, and the rest of the soup was good. An email volley with the soup maker confirmed that there were cilantro *seeds* in the soup. I've never noticed the seeds so acutely before...]

Date: 2003-03-04 02:45 pm (UTC)Twinkies are pretty damn nasty and chemical-tasting. It's strange that I used to worship them as a kid (along with nearly all my peers). I don't know for certain if my taste improved or the Twinkies' taste got worse over the years.

Date: 2003-03-04 03:49 pm (UTC)And it doesn't taste like soap to me, really. The first time I smelled it, I thought it had rotted...
Names
Date: 2003-03-04 07:19 pm (UTC)It took me a couple of days to come up with a username I was happy with. I'd thought briefly to use "breadbaker," but it felt too limiting, one-sided (just think how many more food entries there might be...). I was glad when I came up with magid, which means a teller of stories (the parable/teaching kind, usually). And it doesn't hurt that it's a job description in a favorite Diana Wynne Jones book, either...

Date: 2003-03-04 08:07 pm (UTC)Names
Date: 2003-03-05 04:25 am (UTC)Of all the factors you mention for your original choice, this is the one that I'd thought of. (I hadn't even noticed the anagram... sad.)
Do you think that choosing the name somehow helped you solidify the gaming sides of yourself? (Or just thinking out the name itself reinforcing that?) Rather, do you think you chose the name because of who you are, or did you grow to become the person who would have that name?
Re: Names
Date: 2003-03-05 05:02 am (UTC)More to your question - I picked the name because it felt like something that I wanted to grow into. I like the name, and I feel comfortable with it, but I don't feel like I embody it currently.
