List for week 9 TK.

  • a head of garlic
  • two pounds of potatoes
  • a bunch of herbs (basil/oregano/parsley; I have the first two on the porch, and never get through parsley, so gave it away)
  • a head of romaine
  • a bunch of chard (yellow-stemmed)
  • half a pound of summer squash
  • five ears of corn
  • a pint of tomatoes
  • two eggplants
  • a third of a pound of young beet greens

So far, the eggplants have been roasted (one with some potatoes, one with the summer squash), two of the tomatoes went to salads, and the corn was cut off the cob (some frozen, some put in a salad with tomatoes). An earlier stop at a farmers' market this week had yielded heirloom tomatoes, corn, watermelon, and a peach: they were made into multicolored-tomato and corn salad (notice a trend here?), and a watermelon, peach, chive, and feta salad. And the watermelon rinds were made into sweet and spicy pickles with a ripe jalapeno from the porch.

I should sautee the greens for Shabbat, but am totally lacking motivation. Perhaps posting this will be enough to get me moving?

The best part of going to get the farm share, though, was finding a path of chalked quotes about love lining the route, with arrows leading on from one to the next. I have no idea who did it, or for whom, but it was lovely to read all the quotes and imagine who might have chosen to express feelings that way, public yet meant for one person in particular, perhaps. I couldn't stop smiling.
