The dinner

In the end, dinner worked out really well. I'm glad everyone who came was able to.

Cooking being the ephemeral creative thing that it is, I was glad to hear the compliments. Sometimes it's hard for me to taste things clearly in the middle of hosting, and later things frequently taste different. The herbed rolls seemed particularly appreciated; I suspect I'll use those again (I have none left, except for the bits in the stuffing; the leftovers went home elsewhere). The rest of the menu was fine, less vocal enthusiasm. The chocolate bread was tasted, and deemed interestingly chocolatey without being sweet. There's a lot left. Bread pudding it will be...

ooh - i was thinking of making bread pudding, myself. not having ever done so, i've started looking around through various recipes. do you have any recommendations/suggestions/warnings/etc.?

I don't usually follow a recipe, and have gotten good results anyway. Make sure the bread is submerged in the egg-and-whatever mixture, and that there's time for it to soak up the liquid for a bit before baking. Other than that, it's pretty easy.
