Jotto variation

I wonder how impossible it would be to have some variant with unspecified word lengths. Probably a minimum of 2 or 3 letters, but other than that, anything goes. I wonder how handicapping the scoring would work.

My first thought is that it would be pretty impossible. However, it should be easy enough to try playing a game against the computer to see.

Do you think it would make sense to set a maximum number of letters as well?

Yeah, that would probably make sense, keep it a little saner.

Could have some way of indicating when the guess has the correct number of letters.

Nah, that takes the complexity out of it. You just guess something of each length, and then it becomes a normal Jotto game of that length. I like the idea of not knowing what the length is.
