Veggies (Week 18)
Oct. 10th, 2002 09:23 amI am becoming inundated with vegetables, much of last week's bounty still around... I'm actually looking forward to the end of the boxes, in two weeks.
a lettuce
a big bunch of pac choi
a bunch of collards
a bunch of mizuna
4 medium leeks
6 peppers (4 green, 1 yellow, 1 red)
1 sweet dumpling squash
2 regular eggplants
2 asian eggplants
around 8 potatoes
extras: I grabbed a (slightly underripe) yellow tomato from the ones lying out, and a couple of handfuls of hot peppers, which included more of the cherry peppers, also the little red peppers, and some larger green ones. (I should look up which kinds they are, but I have a cold and am feeling lazier than usual.)

Eggplant abundance
Date: 2002-10-10 08:16 am (UTC)My plan was to make some tomato-eggplant sauce and freeze it, but that will not deal with all the eggplant I have, so you're welcome to have an eggplant or two.
However, I'm not sure I'll be at potluck. It's been weeks and I really want to go, but the cold I've been incubating makes me think the smartest thing to do is early to bed (and since I have overnight guests coming and laundry and shopping and cooking to do....). Feh.
So... what would you like to do about eggplant transfer?
mmmm, mashed potatoes.

Date: 2002-10-10 08:54 am (UTC)I will post the recipe to my LJ later today.
As for the hand-off... Hm. If you aren't going to potluck tonight, does that mean you'll be home all evening? I could probably drop by at some point. Remember that you can still come to potluck and hang out and eat other people's food even if you don't actually bring anything, and that way we still get your company. :)
Re: Eggplant abundance
Date: 2002-10-10 09:09 am (UTC)It's not the cooking for potluck that's an issue; I'm fine with bringing something packaged, if it comes to it. It's more that it's nice to be with friends, and I'm horrible at leaving at a reasonable hour (reasonable here being absurdly early, so I can go to bed early), so going out might mean another night of insufficient cold-warding.
And if I'm not going to potluck, I'd damn well better be home (at least, after an errand or two on the way home). Call before you plan to come over to coordinate?
Insufficient cold-warding
Date: 2002-10-10 09:34 am (UTC)Well, no. I hope you get over it quickly without needing to resort to strong-tasting cures.
Re: Insufficient cold-warding
Date: 2002-10-10 09:42 am (UTC)Most of the time, I think there's not a lot I can do to shorten a cold, just to ameliorate the symptoms (The hot water on my sore throat. Vinegary things are good, too.).
I just wish there were fewer brands of colds out there, so I'd be done with them already.
Shortening colds

Perhaps cayenne capsules...
