Shabbat dinner turned out relatively well. The menu:
wine (actual wine, since I'd forgotten I'd mostly run out of grape juice. Unfortunately, I'd not thought to chill a bottle of white in advance; it tasted nicer the next day when the rest had been cooled)
challah, with wheat germ and eggs, but no multi-grain cereal (I forgot to get more (I seem to not be remembering what I need to get at the supermarket...))
roasted chicken thighs drizzled with wasabi-ginger sauce, over onions and carrots
salad with green leaf and red leaf lettuces, slivers of radiccio, basil, and pine nuts, with a lemon-pepper dressing
rice cooked with bits of dried tomatoes and pine nuts
leftover barley-chick pea-veggie salad
butterscotch brownies, slightly underdone.

I was glad everyone made it for dinner. The company far topped the meal. We again played Citadels, and I realize I've been warped by the 2 and 3 player versions: it felt distinctly odd to have only one character per round; much more vulnerable (or maybe that was just me: I lost rather soundly).

It was low-key the rest of Shabbat. I finally managed to sleep in the next morning, working off a sleep deficit. A walk around the neighborhood in the afternoon was nice, and I even managed to find streets I hadn't been down one million times before.

Sunday was a day of massive spending (for me, anyway). I met up with a friend at Costco, in Waltham, and I of course got caught up in the bargain mentality of it all, though I managed to resist the 3-lb container of whitefish salad...

Once all the loot had been gotten, she followed me into Brookline. I chose to take Route 9, and kept trying to figure out what was going on that had so many people lining the road, with deck chairs, putting up flags, etc. I later found out that there was a charity bike ride coming that way, not so far behind us. A stop at Rami's, followed by JP Licks: crystallized ginger ice cream with hot fudge topping... yum.

Off to shop with other friends, and much of the rest of the afternoon was spent crossing and recrossing the huge parking lot of one shopping mall. I got a housewarming present I'd been intending to get for months, some yarn and a crochet hook to have something to do on vacation (but I started working on last night... I may need to get something else....),
and finally succumbed and got a cell phone. Yeah, I finally caved. Apparently, I should've asked Mangosteen to go with me to the store; I hadn't realized that that was part of Cthulhia's suggestion. Ah, well. They gave me a number that is non-anagram-able, and completely unmemorable, but I can call and ask for another one today instead, so I probably shall. And now the payments shall commence. I wonder how much my life will change, in ways larger and small, and whether it will feel for the better or not....

Evening gaming included Citadels and a new-to-me game, Target, which was fun. Also watching a couple of rounds of 1-2-3.
