Vegetable bounty (farm share, week 7)
Jul. 23rd, 2002 07:50 pmThe box didn't look as full this week, but there was still quite a bit in it:
1 head of green leaf lettuce
1 head of red leaf lettuce (more like a dark purplish brown, almost)
a bag of basil
a cucumber
a yellow summer squash
an onion
a handful of new potatoes
a big bunch of new baby carrots
two long thing asian eggplants, one the usual dark purple color, the other a lighter violet
Great excitement about those last two!
The weekly newsletter announced a group forming for members of the CSA, a discussion group on voluntary simplicity and choices for sustainable living. Interesting, but I'm unlikely to find the time for the eight weeks of discussion.
Porch update: yesterday I ate a bunch of tiny cherry tomatoes; they were yummy. Another of the ginger roots has shown life after many months in dirt, by sending up a shoot. I really need to do some research: are the greens edible too, or just the root? The rest of the herbs still grow happily; the oregano more so than most.
