Farm share, week 8
Jul. 29th, 2026 05:03 pmAnother rainy pickup this week, but luckily, I got there between showers (it’s an outside site, and while they have a pop-up tent, that covers less than half of the tables), and I again ran into a friend who lives not far from me who gave me a ride home.
First thoughts: cucumber-tomato salad. Green salad. Cucumber salad. Sauted chard with garlic. Roasted cabbage. Cabbage-carrot slaw (whether mayo/mustard or soy/lime/sesame dressing). Colcannon. Zucchini soup puree (with onions, garlic, potatoes, lemon, maybe some lettuce). Tomato sandwiches (channeling my inner Harriet). Herbed roasted chicken, possibly over root vegetables. Beet pickles. Carrot pickles. Beet-carrot relish.
- 2 pounds of carrots
- 2 pounds of beets
- 2 heads of green cabbage
- 8 pickling cucumbers
- 2 green peppers
- 8 summer squash (there were mostly the two-toned ones while I was there, but I did get a couple of zucchini)
- 10 tomatoes
- 2 heads of lettuce (I got a red leaf and something that looks like it might be romaine)
- 2 bunches of Bright Lights chard
- 1 pound of basil (swapped for another head of cabbage and more beets; I just couldn’t face the work it would take)
- take-what-you-want herbs (I took some parsley and some sage, leaving the thyme (unless it was oregano?) and holy basil for others)
