Earthquake!
Aug. 23rd, 2011 02:29 pmMy first official one!
Epicenter in VA, felt a few minutes later in my house. The couch I was sitting on was shaking, despite no truck rumbling by on the street outside, then I noticed the computer on the tea table was also moving, and I could feel that too. The wall-o-bookshelves swaying in a way that I've never seen before (but nothing fell, thankfully). I was debating whether I should move into a doorway when the tremor stopped. I went looking online for information, and FB was a thicket of earthquake posts, plus a few links to the USGS; I'm still surprised I could feel something as strongly as I did that was so far away!
It also makes me wonder about the small rumbles I can sometimes feel when sitting on my couch, tiny things that would be trucks outside except that the street's clear. I keep hoping that if they're mini tremors, they're letting off steam, delaying whatever Big One we're due to have by being on a fault line....
