The clocks changing last weekend meant that this Shabbat was the first of the "late" Shabbatot. It's not hugely late, but the contrast is noticeable, with an extra hour for Shabbat prep beforehand, and an hour less afterward (making it more difficult to go to shows, for instance). I had a bit less difficulty adjusting than I might've, since it was all part of the jet-lag accommodation. Israel didn't switch at the same time, so I had one less hour's difference to adjust to on the way back. (Also, I would have thought that by Wednesday the British Airways screens with "Time at Destination" would have reflected the new time, but no.) I have to say, in my head, "late" Shabbatot means spring, which definitely isn't a snowstorm. Also, this means that there's no chance of sedarim starting on the early side, which always makes things more of a logistical challenge.

Anyway. I had lots of plans for Shabbat, which mostly didn't happen, because the Sprite of Deferred Sleep finally caught up with me: instead of going out to dinner, I fell into a long nap Friday evening, which morphed into a very long night's sleep once I moved from the couch to bed.

This was interrupted at the now-pre-dawn hour of 6 A.M. when the building alarms went off. No one was doing any interesting cooking experiments: it turned out that the skylight in the front hallway had failed enough in the rain (current theory being that the flashing isn't built high enough to deal with the water/snow+water levels that this storm brought) that there were significant waterfalls onto the front stairs, and apparently the wiring got wet enough that the alarm went off (or some such thing). We put out plastic bins, and wiped the stairs, and disabled the alarms, noting that the skylight is now top on the To Do list, and toddled back to bed, now to the dulcet tones of an inside waterfall, combining with the exterior scraping by cars.

Sleep happened again, and I didn't wake almost until noon, totally missing the davening I'd very much intended to go to. *sigh* The only thing I managed this Shabbat was making it out to my lunch hosts, which was lovely.
