Wendy Artin: Foro Italico
Nov. 18th, 2005 09:47 amYestereven I stopped by the Gurari gallery for an exhibit of Wendy Artin watercolors*. Unlike some other years, this show has three foci, including pictures of toys, of ingredients, and figure studies (some from classic statuary). Most of the toy pictures didn't entrance me, except for the marionettes, which were compelling. The food was beautiful, seeing the glories of a head of cauliflower, some full pea pods still on the vine, a single apple on a branch, or a cluster of artichokes with the rest of the plant (yesterday was obviously Artichoke Day :-). And the figures are gorgeous. These are one-color drawings (the rest are in color), and they are the most glorious ones to me, showing the curves, planes, and muscles of the models beautifully. I don't know that I can afford one this year, but it was lovely just looking; I highly recommend it, and the show is through December 11. (A sample of her older work is online here.)
*Those who have been to my house may have seen the one I have, a sepia watercolor of Italian architecture, hanging in the hallway.
