It's Russo's fault.
Jul. 23rd, 2004 09:41 amDespite Wednesday's vegetable infusion from the farm, I ended up going to Russo's yesterday (just to see how much produce I can fit in my fridge, I suppose). Which is why I ended up making a (rather tart) batch of strawberry-rhubarb it-might-be-jam (a pint, two half-pints, two minis). And why there's a batch of mango-nectarine chutney simmering on the stove. And trays of veggies roasting in the oven.
edit, 1030: Three pints and two minis of mango-nectarine chutney. The taste I had is SPICY; it'll calm down after a month or so. I hope.
Anyway, does anyone want some jam or chutney?
Also noted: a dappled plum called "dinosaur eggs". And in the funky mushroom department, not only fresh chanterelles (which look rather like pointy corals), but also something called "lobster mushrooms", which were all sorts of bright reds, but otherwise rather like a slab of fungus. Maybe when I'm feeling flush I'll try some of these.
Other prosaic things I've done this week: repotted the newer lavender, straightening up the house (though I still need to bring in all the boxes still sitting in the car), folding laundry, reading, walks. As long as I don't get clobbered by the heat/humidity (no more being stupid with midday walks without water!), I want to keep getting the house in better shape, and exercise to get me in better shape.
