Friday food
May. 25th, 2003 08:55 amDespite having less-than-optimal amounts of time Friday afternoon, I managed to make a fair bit of food.
Happily, the food was enough, perhaps because I also put out seeded crackers and pinjur along with the soup, and it turned out reasonably well.
I was surprised to find that the arugula on the porch is starting to flower. It's been chilly and overcast, and it's already flowering? I don't know if it's one of the types of plants where I should keep it from flowering to keep the leaves tasting good. I suppose I should go look that up...
- a low-key chicken soup
- apricot (jam)-mustard chicken, baked (at low heat) over onion, almond, and dried apricots
- sliced roasted beets
- green salad (greens mostly from my plants, supplemented a bit with red leaf lettuce) with pine nuts and balsamic dressing
- brown and wild rices, cooked with bits of dried onion and dried cranberries
- baby artichokes
- strawberries and rhubarb cooked with dumplings (thanks to Hauntmeister for the last-minute egg run)
- a tray of roasted potatoes, onions, and sweet potatoes
- fruit salad (mostly melon)
