Car update
Nov. 25th, 2002 11:48 amI am still the technical owner of the Escort, though it sits somewhere in Uxbridge. I will remain the owner of that car until I bring the duplicate title to the insurance people, when they will give me a check and become the owners of the wreck. Of course, to get the duplicate title involves paperwork and the RMV, so it will take some weeks...
In the meantime, I have the loan of a car today, and another friend just called to let me know that I can, in fact, borrow her (stick shift) car long term. Woo-hoo! I will start driving it Thursday; schedules didn't work before then, and that gives us more leisure.
So in the short term, there is no pressure to go out and find something that runs, anything. I will not miss the hour and a half it takes to commute by bus each way, though it was nice to have some time to read (sometimes tricky with the movements of the bus), and seeing the world from a higher perspective than usual was interesting, too. At least I now have the flexibility for car or bus, if I need it.
Long term, I suppose I do have to find something. Right now, some reliable used car that won't hurt my back if I drive for a couple of hours and is reasonably safe is what I want. Old is fine if it fits this. Old is probably better; I'd prefer not to get into debt for something that depreciates, if I can. Did that three years ago, didn't like it.
