This weekend there was this year's national wife-carrying contest, in Maine. There's an obstacle course, and the winners get "five times the wife's weight in cash, her weight in Red Hook beer, and the right to compete at the world championship in Finland. "
(the Globe article). Interestingly, couples do not need to be married to compete, though I suspect they only allow mixed-gender couples...
