magidHighlights of potluck last night included:
A medical discussion with the resident medical resident (I discovered I can raise my finger farther than I could a week ago... still there's progress! Someday I'll be able to crack that knuckle again, I hope.).
A discus sion of the size of half a peck (multiple people reminding me that a peck is a quick kiss.... Calvin and Hobbes junkies are everywhere!). A later email pointed to a units dictionary so I now know that a half peck is... 2 gallons. I wonder what 2 gallons of apples look like :-) (ok, it's also 0.25 bushel, which is one of those big baskets o' apples, I think.).
A discussion of the World Cup, including how there are fewer substitutions allowed than other soccer matches (only 3), and how in general, sports should be less low scoring than soccer is. Some possible remedies we thought of were larger goals, a smaller ball, or... smaller goalies. And there was an invitation to watch the 7:30 am game this morning. Some of us do not have traditional work hours... (And some of us look like we are getting employed. Go, E'beth!)
My feet were complimented. For them's that haven't seen my feet, they are apparently "very nice." I think that may be the first time someone has done that.
I had Indonesian spoken at me: the friend going there for a month is trying to pick up some phrases. All I could respond with was "Happy vowels."
Kid news: The oldest kid there, the red-head, lost a tooth! It's his second tooth to go. I was kinda amazed to see just how small it looked on his mom's hand. I know he's not that big a kid, but it just seemed too small, somehow. Also, the kids were off looking for "finoodles," which one of them had determined meant that, among whatever other qualities, it had to have a hole (at one point he grabbed his (special small portable) potty seat...). His dad commented that his son was working on "a platonic ideal of a finoodle."
Mood: finally able to post! (realizing the extent of the addiction...)
