Farm share, week 4
Jun. 26th, 2013 06:22 pm- a head of pointy, teardrop-shaped cabbage
- a bunch of carrots with greens
- three pickling cucumbers
- a big stalk of broccoli
- a bunch of kale or collards (I chose collards since there was no lacinato)
- a third of a pound of spinach (now more easily measured with digital scales!)
- a third of a pound of mesclun
- two heads of lettuce (I chose regular red leaf for both)
- ten garlic scapes
- a bunch of thyme*
* It smelled lovely, but I knew I wouldn't get through it, so traded it in for a second head of cabbage.
Thoughts: the cucumbers will likely end up in salad with lemon zest and juice, mint, and feta; green salad for the lettuces; possibly a stir fry for the broccoli and carrots with a couple of garlic scapes, perhaps some cabbage as well.
I know I should use the carrot greens in something, but I'm not so interested in a pesto-variant, so they might end up in my bags of mostly-vegetable odds and ends in the freezer, which I've been pretty diligent about since the farm share started up again, and in fact, should be making vegetable stock soon. Also, I should make more soup, since I don't have infinite freezer capacity!
