magidYesterday morning, acquaintances of mine who run a business out of Artisan's Asylum started a Kickstarter campaign for their new product, a pen that is a 3D printer, called the 3Doodler.
It's been amazing to watch the numbers roll on this. By the time I checked in around 9 A.M. yesterday, they'd far exceeded the $30K that would make the campaign successful. By early afternoon, they were well into six figures, and by the time I posted a link on FB, around 5 P.M., they were already 700% funded, and their first day wasn't even over (The link is now my most 'shared' by other friends, which almost surprises me, because I was far from the first to post about it, but I suppose it shows how non-overlapping some social circles are). They've already added many more pledge-gifts (or whatever those rewards for different levels of financial support), because those were gone fast (except at the $10K level...). This morning, I just had to see what was happening, and as right now, it's around $577K (still changing almost by the minute), and they've got about a month left. It's exciting (oddly so, since it pretty much has nothing to do with me, really. Still: people I know are doing a super-cool thing, and thousands of people are giving them money in acknowledging the super-coolosity of it.)
