It was a busy day that started slow, waiting for copyediting work that didn't arrive until the next day (and not being particularly productive with the downtime either).

In the afternoon, I went to pick up a friend's car, then took it out to Watertown to pick her kids up at school, delivering them home slightly later than I'd hoped (and wow, I felt like a giant in her car, my head almost touching the roof! plus, odd to be driving an automatic), which meant that by the time I walked to the Orpheum, the box office had been closed for 5 minutes. Darn.

I checked Windsor Button Shop for a particular yarn I need (they carry it, but not in the right color; you'd think gray would be pretty basic), then headed over to the Chinatown end of the Rose Kennedy Greenway for the FIGMENT Lights opening ceremony, which included the light-based installations (wireless firefly lights twinkling in a tree, a slowly-changing-color lit flexible picket-ish fence, three large leaping dolphins (which, since their columnar bases were lit too, made me think 'hammer' before 'dolphin'), and another piece that I didn't get) and some performances: a dance troupe with light-sticks taped on their black outfits, and a variety of light-based spinners (my favorite was the dart, partly because I really like how it looks due to having a variable radius).

Afterward, I stopped by the post-light gathering briefly, then walked to the House of Blues to get a ticket to the EOTO show. It was already time for the first act, so I went in, and found that my ticket was for standing in the mezzanine, rather than the ground floor. I asked about getting merch, and found that gained me access to the ground floor. I made sure to get a new ZEE T-shirt early: it's a limited-run silk-screened piece by a friend whose art I really like, in addition to liking ZEE's music. I realized I was hungry, which is when i discovered that technically, it was a no-reentry event. I talked with some people at the door, and they fixed it for me (perhaps partly because I didn't want to be a nuisance, saying I'd stay if I couldn't come back in). I left, walking to find something I could eat (which turned out to be chips rather than sweets, but not 'real' food, unfortunately), then walked back in time for ZEE's set, which was wonderful. I stayed long enough to see EOTO's new installation, a lotus that could be lit in some amazing ways (made by a friend as well), then left; my knees were unhappy with me for having done so much standing (it ended up being 7 hours on my feet, standing or walking). I walked back across the river, and got home. When I mapped out my route, I found I'd walked 10.5 miles.... and I could feel it.
