A chat conversation yesterday inspired me to imagine thesauruses roaming prehistoric earth, wordily carnivorous....

I let myself reread Sunshine (Robin McKinley), which as usual left me wanting (a) a recipe section at the back, and (b) a sequel (I still want to know what's really up with the Goddess of Pain, and who Mel really is, and whether the Blaises are really all gone, and just what death-choices Con made to be able to do the things he does at his age, and whether if more vampires chose that way it would be more or less likely to have the world not go under the dark, and if anyone finds out what kind of were Mrs. Bialosky is, more about Miss Yolande, and .....) . This time I also realized that it would make a great basis for a party, were I a more dedicated baker, willing to play enough to make Buttermost Limit, Tweedle Dumplings, Death of Marat, Sunshine's Eschatology, Killer Zebras, and about a zillion different kinds of muffins, and so on. People could dress up or not, depending, and it would work with the book either way. If only I were motivated/organized enough to make it happen :-)

Today is the first day of a two week period to register for a lottery for Burning Man tickets. This new system has already garnered much dismay from many usual attendees; I'm waiting to see how well it works in practice. In previous years, the lowest tier (lowest price) tickets sold out in the first n hours, where n < 12, and last year was the first year the event sold out (though how much of that was a function of dastardly folk aiming for scalping, I'm not sure). So this year, there's two weeks for people to register for a lottery, with options for which price ticket they can afford. They expect to have highest-price tickets available later, too. It's going to be interesting.

I watched an episode of Hunter which is the best reason yet I've found for certain conspiracy theorists about the president: it had student revolutionaries from a mythical Middle Eastern country of Baraq.

For those fascinated by expressions in other languages, this is a fascinating post, including comments (warning, off-color language), some of which I think are hilarious.
