thanks to the great generosity of my mom, yesterday I got to attend a performance by Garrison Keillor at Symphony Hall.It was just him, a microphone, and a stool on stage, though given the beautiful architecture, it didn't feel nearly so bare as the black box space i was at last week. In fact, as Keillor mentioned, noticing for them for the first time, there were many nudes around, in niches above the second balcony.

Anyone who's listened to A Prairie Home Companion is familiar with his verbal style. He started with a song, and there were other songs and poetry throughout, much of it evocative love poetry. His topics ranged from the lost chance to be the poet laureate of Minnesota, to being left behind on a family car trip, to driving onto a not-frozen enough lake, to Thanksgiving and Halloween, to having a stroke, to the reason to clean out house gutters of leaves oneself, to how he was conceived, and more. It was incredibly funny, made even better by the laughter of the people on my left. I had a great time, though I admit to crocheting through a bunch of it, since watching one guy on stage is not always incredibly visually compelling (dark suit, white shirt, ed tie, red sneakers, red socks). I was surprised how many bodily fluids were mentioned, though; I think there were topics that wouldn't have made it onto the radio.

Added bonus: I walked to and from the show; it was a lovely day for walking.
