[local eating] Fish and veg
Sep. 14th, 2009 11:11 amI was away at Burning Man, so Lucretia_borgia took week 11's fish share (which was, predictably, cod), while Fetteredwolf took week 13's farm share (thanks for the detailed notes!), which included:
Since I was coming back later than the fish share pickup, Currentlee was kind enough to pick up my fish for me. Amazingly, it was not cod, but 3 flounder and 7 whiting. Given my lack of time, I would've preferred a cod, actually. I sort-of filleted the flounder (I really should look up how to deal with flat fish like those), and beheaded/gutted the whiting, then fried each of them, right before Shabbat, which was later than I should have left them. Still good, but not quite as fresh, and I was annoyed at myself for not having had enough cope earlier (useless, I know).
That was the last of the original fish share; I've re-upped, and tonight is the first delivery (I switched to Mondays, because of a weekly event switching to Tuesdays, and the pickup window is half an hour later. Plus I might run into a few friends :-).
And since my travel plans went so awry coming home, I wasn't back in time to pick up last week's farm share either; many thanks to Shibarismurf for doing it for me. Week 14 included:
- 1 lb. patty pan squash
- 1 lb. yellow wax beans
- 1 lb. cucumbers (little tiny ones, needed 4 to make a lb.)
- 2 eggplants (small, long and skinny)
- a bundle of chard or kale- I chose chard since our guinea pigs are bored of kale.
- 2 lb peppers- I chose all red since we get green ones from Boston Organics all the time.
- 3 hot peppers
- 1/2 pint cherry tomatoes which we will have tonight for dinner with basil, balsamic and fresh mozzarella.
- a butternut squash (there were a variety of winter squash to choose from)
- 2 lb onions
