i used to work the amtrak train that goes chicago to emeryville (near oakland) and i worked the leg from emeryville to reno. we had to stay overnight in reno. it was unpleasant. i find that city highly depressing. the train ride through the sierras is gorgeous, however

Mostly, I think of Reno as a place that has supermarkets, showers, and beds on my way to somewhere else, and it does that reasonably well.

I would love to do that train ride, though.

I think I saw more signs of the "Girls Girls Girls" variety than tattoo parlors, actually. Perhaps that's a function of what's more unusual to me, though.

(And I'm not anti-alcohol or anything. But growing up in MA with blue laws and all is a very different default from NV's approach to liquor sales and general availability.)

Yeah, it *is* strange.

I've been conscious of tattoo parlors since my PBSC donation. Everyone involved was very glad that I hadn't had one applied lately. There are a few places in Boston which are somehow registered and deemed clean enough for donors, but most tattoo parlor aren't, and disqualify PBSC and marrow donors.

I knew that having gotten tattoos really recently was a disqualifier for blood donors, so I'm not particularly surprised to hear this.

(Sometimes I'm surprised how many people get tattooed these days; it seems to fast be becoming the norm rather than the exception.)
