Mask, and some mathy hyperbolic crochet
Aug. 28th, 2009 06:31 pmThere are few masks that work over glasses, so I decided to make one myself. I finally finished the prototype, and I'm pleased with how it looks, though I still have to figure out a better way to attach them to my glasses, since my first idea is clunky and not secure enough.
I also realized last week that I could make some of my hyperbolic crochet doodles using different bases than just a plain circle. I started with a Moebius strip base, just because it's cool. Given how hyperbolic crochet increases, though, they're not easily noticed as different (unlike my Moebius hat, for example). This piece doesn't scream Moebius base to me.
However, it's easier to notice in this comparison picture with one of the straightforward circle-base hyperbolic pieces.
I have more ideas of where to go next, playing more with the Moebius base (perhaps with a larger hole to start) and the other additions I've made to the straigh hyperbolic pieces, and playing with cylinders and such too.
