magidLast week I was washing red-leaf lettuce, and started thinking about how it's a gorgeous hyperbolic surface. That plus the fractal romanesco cauliflower are kitchen reminders that the world is not only Euclidean.
Tribe seems borked. I wonder what happened.
After last Sunday's ride, I met a new Cambridge sojourner, a German guy who arrived a week ago and ended up on this ride because he'd run into a friend of a friend on the street who told him about it. He wanted some geeky bike thing, and had already tried a couple of bike stores, so I led him to Ace in Porter. I hope he found what he was looking for.
The schach is up. Given my sukkah structure, it's now legal (though extremely unaesthetic, and more wood should be applied). I hope this warm snap lasts another week.
Stupidity of the afternoon: remembering I'd turned off the oven once the spaghetti squash was done, leaving it in to cool off. I kept smelling it, but since I knew I'd turned the oven off, didn't worry about it. Except that I hadn't, and now I have browned husks of squash, plus a touch of a steam burn on one finger from trying to see underneath. D'oh. (Now I wonder: would this have happened for squash I like better than spaghetti squash?)
Just as well I lamed on biking to gaming this week: we ran over an hour late (breaking in the middle of huge battle is just not going to happen, especially when we're on hiatus for the next couple of weeks due to Sukkot). Which meant I was able to offer the one who did bike a ride, since his bike has quick releases front and back. (The next car will have a back seat that flops down!)
Way to go, CT Supreme Court!
About national politics: I don't post because other people talk about the issues better than I do, while I have a tendency to wave my hands wildly and sputter. I am so ready for this campaign to be over, though. Presidential campaigns go on far too long in this country.
There was a typo about the end of YK on one handout. I heard that it was the time from last year, half an hour later. I know that the chagim are late this year, but that really brought it home. Relatedly, it feels like it's getting dark so early now. Time to shift from dark = late mode!

For those in metro NYC who would like kosher, local, pasture-fed beef (also honey and eggs), there's a coop, rather like a farm share, except ordering each time, Mitzvah Meat.
Also, KOL Foods (kosher, organic-raised, local), which seems to have a number of distribution points on the east coast, but none north of NYC.
