  • wine, challah rolls, also fresh-and-dried-tomato bread
  • vegetable chicken soup*
  • sauteed red cabbage, tri-color carrots, and onion with roasted polenta 'croutons'
  • chicken baked with hot peppery boozy apricots
  • salad: tomato, cucumber, fresh corn, green olives, chives, and balsamic vinaigrette
  • peppers sauteed with fennel, tomato, onion, and garlic
  • fruit bars
  • apricot liqueurs

* Made to use the celery, really. Might not get served if it feels too warm for hot soup.

And an unrelated note: Compuserve is of the fail. I finally found someone in the camera section (last time I went in there didn't seem to be anyone working there, so I gave up), and asked for the cord to connect my camera to the computer. He looked at it, said it was Sony (I knew that), they have proprietary designs (knew that too), and they don't carry it. They sold me the camera, but they don't carry the cord to get the photos off the camera? He looked at me as if I were dim and said that they don't carry all the accessories. Seems to me this is a fairly necessary kind of accessory... I think it's time to poke around online for it. *sigh*

Have you tried Ferrante-whatever in Harvard Square, or Hunt Photo/Video in Melrose?

Sounds yummy!

Good luck finding the camera cord. Are you coming to SJ on monday?

Ferrante-Dege, something like that. No, I haven't. I should call and ask. There's also apparently a Sony store somewhere too.

Thanks! I was a bit unsure of how the chicken and the pepper-fennel-tomato stuff would turn out, but it all tasted pretty good :-).

I'd like to make it Monday. It was my own lameness that I didn't make it this past Monday :-(.

What a lovely meal.

How was the chicken soup? My family didn't make it with celery. How much of it did you use?

Retail sales staff who behave that way really annoy me.

Shavua tov.

The soup was brothier than my usual soup, being just an onion, celery, turnips, chicken, water, and the end of some previously-fizzy cider (I figured the bitterness of the turnips would balance it, and it's *almost* like the end of some (non-alcoholic) wine, right? :-). Luckily my guest is a fan of turnips!

I think I need to jazz it up, with some sweet potato or dumplings or something. My mom always put in a couple of stalks of celery, which she discarded when she deboned the soup. I knew I'd not manage to do anything else with the celery... so it all went in!

I am underwhelmed with the store at this point. It conveniently shares a parking lot with Trader Joe's, and I think I'm going to be ignoring it from now on.

Shavua tov to you. I hope you had a restful Shabbat.
