Huzzah, for it's CSA time! *happy vegetable dance*
I have a share in Red Fire Farm, out in Granby, MA.

The loot:
  • a bunch of cilantro (given away at the distribution site)
  • a bunch of flowering chives
  • three Hakurei turnips with greens
  • a bunch of red radishes with greens
  • two humungoid heads of lettuce (green leaf was all that was there when I arrived)
  • a quarter pound of mesclun (including some little curly green that looked like curly parsley but packs much more of a wallop; closer to arugula, I suppose, but not that either)
  • three-quarters of a pound of spinach

It's way too much lettuce for me to get through in a week; if someone could use it, let me know.

Also, a Boston Organics delivery, small box, all vegetables.
  • a small head of cauliflower
  • a bunch of collards*
  • a bunch of arugula
  • a big bunch of broccoli
  • two summer squashes
  • a yellow onion
  • ten red-skinned potatoes
    * local

Hm. The list on the box includes a leek, which is definitely absent. Time to email them.

Our guinea pigs would love you forever, and I'd buy it from you. If you came over with it, you'd get to see our new house and watch them eat it- which is always entertaining, but we could also pick it up.

B suggests that your mystery mesclun may be escarole or some sort of endive.

So an unexpected side benefit of choosing the same CSA as you? You tell me what I've got in my fridge, as [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen neglected to catch the name of the turnips.

I'm planning on bringing salad to a party on Saturday. The party is big enough -- I should be able to get through all of the salad bits.

I don't think I'd realized you have this farm share too. Cool!

The board didn't list the kind of turnips; I recognized them from farm shares past. I don't yet know the person doing the distribution at Harvest in Cambridge yet, but other people who've done that have tended to have lots of useful information if asked.

Yay parties that like salad :-)

My thanks to B. Maybe bits of curly endive... do you know whether it's a strongly bitter green?

I'm happy to send the lettuce your way. Given my schedule the rest of this week, I think the easiest thing may be to bring it to your lab, since I should be going by the MIT SF library anyway. Email me your specific location and what times would work for you?
