finger update
Mar. 12th, 2002 08:29 pmafter 5 hours (!) at the hospital today (thanks to teddywolf for stopping by, keeping me company, and bringing lunch!), here's the latest:
the orthopedist saw the finger (feeling naked w/o the temporary cast), did
some on-the-spot x-rays, and is pleased w/ how it's healing, only a few
degrees off what had been, w/ good chace of full mobility. however, he's
still concerned that the break isn't stable, so suggested surgery to make
sure it doesn't get more out of whack as it heals.
the current plan: i show up at the hospital 7.30 friday morning (did all the
other preop stuff today), for preop. 9 am surgery (1st, so hopefully won't
already be running late). local anesthesia for the duration, which is
anywhere fom 45 min to 2 hrs, depending on whether i end up w/ pins (to be
taken out in 3 weeks) or a plate (more permanent). an hour or so in postop,
then someone (teddywolf?) walks me home.
to be followed by much physical therapy.
i got quit of the annoying cast i had had, and now have a new one that does
not cause my thumb pain (hooray!), made out of plastc molded to my hand/arm,
with colored velcro (i chose purple & red from the many colors available.)
that means i can take it off :-). the whole process making it was cool to
watch.
more as it happens...
