Taanit Esther, etc
Mar. 20th, 2008 04:09 pmIt's Taanit Esther today, the fast of Esther. Mentally, it's the easiest fast of the year for me: it's right there, in the megillah, why we commemorate this day by fasting. Physically... well, I'd be happier had the clocks not yet changed. Yeah, it's still the same number of hours fasting, but how late it goes makes a difference. (It probably hasn't helped that I've already walked almost 8 miles today, either.)
It's also the vernal equinox today. Happy spring! I've seen not only snowdrops and crocuses (crocii!), but mini-irises blooming too.
I finally picked up a little bin for compostables (green plastic, solidly-fitting lid, convenient handle). Now to remember to bring the (future) contents to the city on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
Also accomplished: skirts. I've been needing skirts for a while, so when Lord & Taylor sent me a gift card for $30, it gave me impetus to get some. Lucky for me there was also a huge sale going on, 50% off lots of stuff. (A bit of me thinks I should have sewn myself skirts instead of buying. I really need to work more on sewing.)
Mishloach manot update: rolls are on their second rise. This batch is a mixture of white and rye flours, multi-grain flakes, and flaxseed meal, sweetened with maple syrup. I think I'm going to be low-key this year, giving mostly rolls and grape juice, perhaps some applesauce.
