About Phil

magidSort of about Phil. Well, not so much about Phil, actually. But the story of the orchids, anyway.
When I posted about Phil, I had just received 15 orchids with a card that read "With all my love, on Valentine's Day and always.Phil" (Yes, missing the space after the period, and with those horrible quotation marks. Nice sentiment, but my inner editor cringed.).
Now, I know no one of that name who's at all likely to send me flowers, certainly not with such an effusive message, so I posted. And it was awfully nice to think that there was some mysterious person who found me that intriguing.
Yesterday I got email from my mom, asking whether I'd gotten any flowers for Shabbat. Aha! So I called, and we figured out what must have happened. Mom had thought it was time for another donation to WBUR (a local NPR affiliate), and they were running a Valentine's promotion, to have flowers sent. So my mom called, and had them send me flowers. She specified not roses, and the message was something to the effect of "Shabbat shalom, from Mom and Dad." Certainly, not the card that arrived. I wonder whether Phil's SO got flowers with my message on it, and whether it was confusing, and whether Phil was put in the doghouse until he explained. Or did more cards get messed up, not just two being switched?
It was very sweet of my parents to send me flowers, and the orchids are gorgeous. But having an unknown swain was a nice fantasy while it lasted.
