Good things, midday edition
Dec. 6th, 2007 02:08 pmSomeone put ice melt on Longfellow Bridge sidewalks since yesterday morning, making today's commute noticeably less hazardous. First time that's happened since I've been walking it.
I came in to my cube to find a cup with a fun pencil, candy, shaped erasers, paper clips, and a plastic dreidl filled with chocolates. It was all blue and snowman themed, rather than the red, green, and santa everyone else got, so even more thoughtful.
There's going to be a department lunch at a traif restaurant... and the admin called to ask what lunch I'd like delivered from Milk St., to bring along and eat with everyone else. What a lovely surprise, that I won't have to just sip fruit juice.
I made it to a lecture at the Old South Meeting House, on the history of molasses in Boston. The lecturer covered the highlights (triangle trade, molasses made into rum, the molasses flood), all of which were familiar, though I hadn't realized just how popular rum was. On the other hand, if I'd had a shot of rum every time he said "an important feature" during the 40 minute talk... I'd be dead now. The language flowed and all, but wow, serious verbal tics.
