magidLow clouds on the river this gray morning, clumps misting upwards, making me think of hants. It seems fitting weather for the day.
Just east of Union Square, at the underpass below Rte 93, there's new art, flat 'people' standing around, and some supports now with designs painted on them, part of an effort to reclaim that dead zone into something interesting.
On the sidewalk by the high school, and long, long chalk line, labeled in decimal numbers BYA (it took me a minute to figure out that's billions of years ago), with markers at particular events, like bacteria forming (chalk picture of bacteria), the planet reaching current size, and so on. It was neat; I'm glad a timeline like that wasn't compressed into a classroom.
Commercial notes: The florist opposite the S&S's parking lot in Inman Square is gone; an architecture firm is moving in. Also, Kolbeh and Kabob, the restaurant opposite Cambridge Hospital, has been boarded up for weeks; apparently there was a fire. It seems strange that no one has started cleaning up even the broken glass inside.
Bonus track, a taste-feel: I finally bought some cape gooseberries aka husk tomatoes aka ground cherries aka goldenberries aka Physalis peruviana at the farmers' market last week. They look like little tomatillos, so they're interesting to eat, peeling back the papery (pod? shell? those feel too substantial for this) to reveal the tiny yellow fruit within, which is solidly attached to its stem. Ripe ones taste like a cross between a tiny, seedless tomato and some kind of berry, which registers to me more on the fruit scale than any tomato ever has. Very yummy, though not affordable enough to play around with more than eating out of hand.
