In honor of May Day
May. 1st, 2007 10:39 amA friend of mine in college used to sing a song that seemed appropriate for today, a sort of Communist counting song. I found one version of Red Fly the Banners, O!, which isn't quite what he sang, and while I was looking, one with almost wholly different lyrics (13 made me think of that skit about killing Trotsky that Theatre @ First put on at least a couple of years ago now), and a third set of words.
The first is closest to what the Lebowitz sang. I remember: one is for the workers' union, two is for the workers' hands, three is for the rights ofmanpeople!, five is for the five year plan, four the years we did it in, six is for the workers' week, ten is for the workers' minyan. Er, yeah, adaptation, definitely.
