I just got the schedule for this spring's "mini-med school classes," aka Longwood Seminars at Harvard Medical School. This year's topics are

AUTOIMMUNITY: WHEN THE BODY ATTACKS ITSELF
Wednesday, April 4, 2007
Speakers: David Hafler, MD, Professor of Neurology, HMS, Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Diane Mathis, MSc, PhD Professor of Medicine, HMS, Head of Section on Immunology, Joslin Diabetes Center; and Arlene Sharpe, MD, PhD (moderator) Professor Comparative Pathology, HMS.

SEXUAL HEALTH OVER A LIFETIME
Wednesday, April 11, 2007
Speakers: Sue Bennett, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, HMS, Massachusetts General Hospital; Hope Ricciotti, MD, Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Biology, HMS, Program Director, Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; and Daniel Federman, MD (moderator) Distinguished Professor of Medicine, HMS.

ADDICTIONS: BEYOND SEX, DRUGS & GAMBLING
Wednesday, April 25, 2007
Speakers: Gregory Gasic, PhD, Assistant Professor of Radiology, HMS, Massachusetts General Hospital; Howard Shaffer, PhD, CAS, Associate Professor of Psychology, HMS, Director, Division on Addictions, Cambridge Health Alliance; and Michael C. Miller, MD (moderator), Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, HMS, Editor-in-chief, Harvard Mental Health Letter.

The fine print: It's free, register here if you're interested. All classes are 5:30 –7:00 P.M. at the school’s conference center, 77 Avenue Louis Pasteur, Boston. You can get a certificate of completion if you go to three or more classes; public school teachers can earn 10 PDPs if they go to all four. (I assume this is some kind of continuing education credits? All I think of when I see "PDP" is mainframe computer, likely with an 8, 9, 10, or 11 after it.)

yup, PDP's are an important recertification thing, I have tons and tons of them. I've yet to figure out what they're actually for however.

OK, if they were that important, I'd've thought you'd know what they're for. Huh.

Good on you for having lots of them, then.

Cool. If you go, let me know; I'm planning to go to most/all of them. One of them is the third night of Pesach, btw.
