this week's shabbat food prep is rather different than the usual. i've got winter squash baking, which will be combined with salsa when it comes out of the oven. this gets brought to the con for the potluck shabbat dinner (things have evolved since the last time i went to a con (ok, that was in the 80's....).
and i've got a bunch of non-refrigerator-requiring foods to have for lunch. i've been looking for interesting things, rather than what i always bring when traveling for work, and have found one or 2 things i'm pleased about. the list: regular and rosemary rolls from bread & circus; baby carrots; canned fish fillets; cheddar cheese; water crackers; bananas; a can of stuffed grape leaves from trader joe's; organic unsulfured turkish apricots; and on the junk food side, cheddar-flavored soy chips; rosencrunch & guildenpop (the trader joe's version of poppycock); and some key lime cream filled dark chocolates (just 'cause they were there and kosher (and dark chocolate)). is this enough for saturday and half of sunday? probably. (really, it's just the boredom factor of having a restricted palette to work with, and no cooked foods.). but if anyone has any other ideas, i'd love to hear them.
still have to finish packing (doing laundry first seems like a good idea). at least i've got my guest room set up.... there's someone coming to stay saturday (i suppose i'll meet him sunday sometime), and i want to leave the place ready for him. and then i'll be done. maybe i will end up at potluck tonight after all....
