For a not quite Fourth of July barbeque (on the 3rd).

I'd spotted (kosher, organic) spinach powder and beet powder, and wanted to make something with them, but not pasta. I'd already decided to make a pull-apart loaf for the barbeque, then realized I had the opportunity to make the bread much more topical.

(Thanks to Coorr for the photo.)

I made three batches of rather plain bread dough, with just the colors to enhance two of the batches. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the dark ones are a rather muddy dark green, that tasted of spinach to me. The beet much less so, but I had used less beet powder.

As I made all the little dough balls, I started thinking about what bread I could make given color as well as shape to play with. I wonder what simple representational shapes would hold up through the second rise and baking?

Hee! I'd wanted to make them smaller than I did, so I could have more detail, but the size of them as small rolls worked out well for eating.
