Thunderstorms are nice, but I'd really prefer them as standalones, not part of days of rain with projected flooding. Again. Whoever organized this year's weather seems to have filled out the raining-and-flooding part in triplicate. The thunder's loud here at work, and I think there were little hail pellets, too. (Which always surprises me, natural ice in the summer, in whatever form.)
Plus, all those errands I'd been planning to do on foot? Not so much.

I had a blah day yesterday, the kind where nothing was wrong, but I was seeing the world through grey glasses. I convinced myself to stop at Harvest, and took the time to browse the bulk aisle. They have a huge selection of stuff, including spices (mostly hechshered). There were a number of interesting things, so I splurged, getting dried shiitakes, maple granules (organic!), and powdered lemon juice. The first will end up in soup, but I don't know what I'll do with the others (though it does make me wonder whether I could use them for flavoring ganache...). Of course, I couldn't remember which herbs I've run out of.

I've been walking from Charles St. station to work this week, but not down Charles St. Storrow is shady until later in the day, and there are fewer intersections where I have to stop. And there's a lot more room on the sidewalks. It's noisy, but mostly in a white noise way. Less good for window-shopping, better for thinking.

There's a tree in my kitchen, some tropical sort that I've never known the name of. It's a cutting from one my mother has, which was a cutting of one my grandmother had. There's the same kind of tree in one of the offices here... and it's blooming! Mine's never done that. They're spherical blossoms, made up of lots of little flowers, and they have a noticeable scent. They drip nectar, too. I wonder if mine is a male plant, or I've never treated it nicely enough.

In other news, trigonometry remains not my favorite topic.
