If there were a game about the Viennese and other Europeans holding off the Turks in the early 1500s, it could be called Swords and Scimitars.
I did too much yesterday; the pain's worse today. I have an appointment this afternoon with the nurse practitioner (I assume if she can't help me, I'll get immediately bumped to see a doctor). Lucky for me that right now my work is portable, and my home convenient to the hospital.
I got a tarp at Target yesterday, to put all the damp things that had been on my porch into my kitchen. Tarps are in the camping section, so I got to see the array of sample tents they have. I'm used to the displays in places like REI, with tents I used to love crawling into when I was little. These tents, though, were mini models of the real thing, incredibly cute, perfect for a pet or playing camping with toys. (There were even mini sleeping bags across the aisle.)
"Advance Auto Parts" sounds like a general's order in the war of the undead car parts.
I've finally read something by Octavia Butler; Wild Seed was fascinating (despite the typos), and is apparently the first of three books set in the same universe. It's interesting to see how gender is so important to the main characters, but in other ways, not at all, since either can be either.
Also in book news, thanks to
queue and
theora, I can read the books after Mortal Engines (Philip Reeve). Thank you both!
Shabbat lunch included much silliness, and what felt like not quite enough food, given that we sat around chatting and nibbling for a while. Or, there was enough for lunch, but not enough for leftovers.
A link: Be Jane, helping women become handier around the house. (More DIY, that is.)
ETA Pandemonium's open! I went in Thursday, the first day they were open, and there was still some unpacking left to do. But the space is much bigger (yay!), and there are big squishy chairs to fall into on the basement level. First impressions: will be better when the paint smell dissipates; the stairs are very wide compared to other dimensions, but that's good; murals would be great; it's going to be a bit more difficult to find the YA stuff, filed in with the rest.
