The new T maps that include the Silver Line (not a subway line, a bus line with special status) is cool. I hadn't realized that the Silver Line is in two pieces. And there's been a lot more signage up around the stations in general. I approve.

If berries are a plant's way of getting seeds around, why are some berries poisonous?

Food made today (for Shabbat and/or Sukkot): banana-applesauce cake (without eggs; I'd forgotten I don't have any. I hope it's ok.); roasted cauliflower; Brussels sprouts; roasted beets and sweet potatoes; lacinato kale and oyster mushrooms with ground buffalo (*insert bad pun about air buffalo and wings here*).

It might not rain on Sunday! I may be able to put the sukkah up without getting soaked!

not all berries want to be eaten, they'd rather sprout via wind or water carry than be chewed up and subject to digestive stuff.

Also, not all berries that are poisonous to us are poisonous to various other animals (in particular, birds).

I'll be curious to know how the bread works out without eggs - I assume you used applesauce as a substitute.
I haven't tried no-egg quickbreads, and if it does work, I'll do breads for the downstairs residents of my house again (little kiddo allergic to egg).

Sometimes I use an egg replacement made of potato starch, I think? When cooking for my vegan friends.

But mostly, I wanted to ask, why do you have a picture of my cat in your user icon???

(Do we have twins?)

Heh. I think they're fairly common cat colors. My kitty, however, died about 3ish years ago at just about 20 years old, so I suspect no twins were separated at birth here. The above picture was taken when he was about 18.

Thanks for the additives list! Very good information.

It's not only the colors, it's also the expression and the way he's holding himself. I think his back leg is white a bit further up than our cat, who is a 9 year old female. I hope we have her for 20 years.

I guess I just assumed that berries aren't useful to the seeds if not for being eaten. Point.

True enough. Good point.

I've frozen it for Sukkot; I'll try to remember to let you know after the first days are over. Since the cake already had applesauce in it, I added a bit more than usual, and one of the suggestions online for egg substitute in cake was... a banana, so I figured I had it covered either way. I hope, anyway. (Some of the others were starches of different sorts, but since the recipe doesn't have any liquid other than mashed banana, applesauce, and eggs, I didn't want to add more dry stuff.)

If you want vegan chocolate cake, there's one bookmarked in my food writing entries...

(Oops; you were the person mentioning starch, and I put my reply to Dancingdeer...)

Thought you'd like it.

She had been doing it in pieces, then put the last piece together with the rest. I was pretty amused when the second-to-last piece mentioned Serenity, which I definitely would not have expected!
