Query

Why is it that the T has reduced fares for disabled people, but is completely free for blind people? Why is blindness a special category?

They must have a powerful lobby.

I don't see that.

That just bumps up the question a notch, to the state level: why is blindness considered so much worse than any other disability?

Becasue some disabled people can still drive, but all blind people really should not.

Which really doesn't explain the braille on the drive-through ATMs. o.O -H...

It still doesn't make sense to me; there are lots of types of disabilities that would disqualify someone from driving.

Braille on drive-through ATMs? It almost makes me want to find a drive-through one to see :-). Just bizarre.

My mind boggled at the braille on drive-through ATMs until I saw someone in the back seat of a car using one.

I have no idea why blindness should be a special class of disability for the T, but I wouldn't be surprised if it started out as [livejournal.com profile] maedbh7 suggested and they just didn't think it through to other similar classes.

good point. on the flip side, most blind people can get used to using the T, while many of us otherly disabled folk cannot. not that making it free would make it any easier...
