Weekend notes

  • Having an excuse for a six-mile walk on a beautiful winter day is a good thing.
  • So is having an excuse to dress up extra fancy, though I still wish I had elbow-length gloves (my hands are too large, unfortunately). The hat and peacock scarf did admirably, however.
  • Da Vinci's Notebook gives a great concert; I haven't laughed that much in ages (talking clitori! Purple Rain as sung by Kermit! high audience geek quotient! not to mention some songs :-). Thanks to KimberLogic for the last-minute ticket.
  • The Coat Rule: coats will always tend towards upsidedownness when put on a seat, if at all possible. Many thanks to Chanaleh for rescuing my ATM card.
  • I was surprised by the percentage of the audience I knew; that got higher as I met three new people, two of whom are known to have LJs, even. Huzzah for the friends of friends effect. The world shrinks yet again.
  • Getting out of the house is a good thing. There are mornings when it's hard to get myself moving; why is it that I can't remember how helpful it is. It also makes this underheated apartment feel warmer.
  • Building 19 is addictive. I went in for a paintbrush, and ended up with socks and lots of books too.
  • I wish the library had been open. They were closed for inventory. I don't really know what that means. Do they check for misplaced books? That's all I can think of; counting them seems redundant when they're catalogued on computer.

The 7PM Saturday DVN show was differently silly than yours, apparently. :) But still lots of fun.

Yeah, I know, but it was more fun this way. Or at least, it was yesterday while typing (Plus it matched the 'penii' in a recent post :-).

DVN: I hope they'll keep touring some, at least, and it'll be all at Passim! They give such excellent concerts, though they always feel too short...

Definitely different; they had to, because so many people stayed for both!

Misplaced, stolen, and maybe ones that have been snuck back in by people who didn't want to pay fines. ("What do you mean I didn't return it on time? It's right here on the shelf! It's not my fault if you didn't record it correctly!")

Broadly, "taking inventory" is all about comparing your records with reality.

I have a much better idea of inventory when thinking about stores: 10 cartons of this, a dozen boxes of that, etc. But x books would be stupid. Your explanation makes sense. (I never thought to try to sneak library books in so I wouldn't pay a fine when I was late. They're such low fines, compared to the wonderfulness of a public institution that gives access to so much information!)

Or perhaps it's just that it seems a daunting task, to find the misplaced ones in such a welter of books...
