Farm share, week 6

  • a head of napa cabbage
  • 1.5 pounds of carrots
  • 3 pounds of summer squash (one only)/ zucchini/ cucumbers (I didn't take any cukes)
  • a bunch of beets with greens (I took ones that are the regular magenta, and the beets are small)
  • a head of garlic
  • a bunch of Walla Walla onions (two large)
  • three handfuls of basil
  • a head of lettuce (I took a small green leaf one)
  • a cubanelle pepper (the other option was a green bell pepper)

Plus the Boston Organics delivery:
  • a pint of strawberries
  • a head of cauliflower
  • three oranges
  • three small summer squashes
  • two ears of corn
  • five potatoes
  • four small Fuji apples
  • eight bananas
  • six plums

And the first two tomatoes are ripening on my porch!

Mine will be, if I don't cook something tonight. First thought: roast two trays of veggies: summer squash-zuke-onion, and cauliflower-onion. And maybe have that cook on time bake and get out of the house :-). Later, sautee the corn off the cob with already-caramelized onions (from last week's share), the scallions of this week's onions, plus a splash of soy milk and cayenne.

Any suggestions for napa cabbage?

I'm glad the electricity is indeed back on; fans make everything a bit more bearable.

Walla Walla onions!

Walla walla!

I just like saying "walla walla".

Napa cabbage is good as a stir fry, I make mine with tofu and onions. I think you can also make an asian-style coleslaw with it, and of course it can be pickled into kimchee.

All good ideas, thank you. And I've even got tofu in the house.
