His clarification is not really a clarification. Both pronunciations are correct, and this is from someone who group up approximately 49 miles from the Caribbean (not Carribean). It's a matter of preference. Most Caribbean islanders I know pronounce it with the accent on the second syllable, the "ri." In Spanish, it is Caribe, with the accent on the "ri." But Americans tend to pronounce it with the strong accent on the third syllable and the weak accent on the first syllable.
